Joint Materials and Adhesives

Joint Material fills the joint between your pavers, helping stabilize the interlocked pavers, keep the joints free of debris, and prevent weed growth. However, different jointing compounds on the market will provide different results, depending on your needs.

Joint materials and adhesives serve different roles in construction and manufacturing. Joint materials are used to fill gaps and create a barrier between two surfaces, providing flexibility and resistance to environmental factors like moisture and temperature changes.

Adhesives, on the other hand, are substances applied to surfaces to bond them together permanently. They provide high strength and durability, ensuring that the joined components remain fixed and secure under various conditions.

We at Pave Tool offer a range of high-quality adhesive products, including the Techniseal Sticky Stone. This professional-grade vertical hardscape adhesive is designed to bond various substrates, such as stone, porcelain, and wood, ensuring durable veneer installations. It's ideal for applications like outdoor kitchens, fire pits, and columns.

Types of Paver Joint Material Available In the Market

Paver joint compound is a material that is swept into crevices between pavers and then moistened to set up. By comparison, pre-mixed jointing compound, such as Xtreme Easy, is already in a wet form and can be applied in a much wider range of conditions.

Factors to Consider When Choosing a Paver Joint Fill

When considering a paver joint fill for a client’s project, there are a few factors to take into consideration. The first is the type of paver material, as a porcelain paver would require a different type of jointing material than a standard concrete paver. The traffic that the joint material will experience comes into play as well as the base material and whether it is a permeable pavement application or not. The overall durability and longevity of the project should be taken into account as well, with a longer-lasting project often requiring better-quality joint material. Finally, you'll want to consider ease of application to help make the job go quickly without sacrificing quality.

Benefits of Using Jointing Sand

Why use paver jointing material? When you use paver joint material, you're improving the overall stability of the project, protecting your client's investment. These jointing products also prevent the pavers from shifting and heaving, which impacts stability and can create trip-and-fall hazards. Utilizing joint material will also make your projects more resistant to damage from moisture and weather, providing clients with a longer-lasting installation that will stand the test of time.

Paver Joint FAQ:

With plenty of experience working in the industry, we regularly recommend Xtreme Easy over other types of joint compound for concrete pavers, mainly due to the high-quality finish it provides. Unlike normal joint sand, which can wash away and may require specific conditions for installation, Xtreme Easy is a permeable joint material for any number of applications and will last 10+ years.

Polymeric sand, typically called joint compound for pavers or paver joint compound, is a type of sand with compounds in it that is swept into the joints between pavers, and a specific amount of water is then added to the top to activate the compound. This treatment lasts 3-5 years. By comparison, Xtreme Easy is applied wet, even in light rain, and lasts for a significantly longer period, often 10+ years.

Though you can use polymeric sand or C-33 masonry sand, we recommend using Xtreme Easy as a joint material that will protect your work for many more years to come.
